Use it on an article of clothing and *bam*, I'm effectively invisible again, with the added bonus of potentially blinding my enemies. Since blacklight is an evocation rather than an illusion spell, even true seeing can't cut though it, but it specifically states that the caster can see out of it as long as he stays in the area of effect. They're great for those rare circumstances where I'm up against something that can see through my invisibility. If there's a spell effect you'd like to have for emergencies, getting a one-shot version at (Spell Level x Caster Level x 50) is alot cheaper than a wand of "X charges per day" when you're only rarely going to need it.įor example, my ninja character carries around a few "Blacklight Beads", custom one-shot items that cast Blacklight. So yeah, you can get two extra spells known every level as a human sorcerer with this feat, or go ninja and get an extra trick (which can be swapped out for a rogue talent or a combat feat) every three levels.Īlso, don't underestimate the usefulness of custom one-shot magic items. (+1 spell known for sorcerers, +1/6 of a rogue talent or ninja trick, ect) There is some debate due to the wording, but it appears that you can swap either or both of these bonuses out for the optional bonus. So basically, you trade a trait that gives you one feat for one that gives you three.Īlso there's a human-only feat in there called Fast Learner, which gives you both the +1 HP and +1 skill point bonus with your favored class. I haven't gone through it completely, but there's an option for humans called Focused Study that replaces their bonus feat with Skill Focus at 1st, 8th, and 16th levels.

If your GM allows it, the Advanced Race guide has some wonderful (read: horribly broken) stuff. Human sorcerers can swap their favored class bonus for +1 spell known, though it has to be at least one level below the highest level you can cast. A ninja with Vanishing Trick, all three feats, and Underhanded is basically doom to anything not immune to nonlethal damage. It gets even worse if you have the Underhanded rogue talent. Combine with the Bludgeoner feat and some blunt arrows, and you can use this combo at range. Together, these allow you to do ridiculous amounts of damage on non-lethal sneak attacks-although sap master only works when the target is flat footed.

Upgrade the mounts intelligence to 3 so they can take any feat they qualify for, and you won't have to worry about convincing someone else in your party to take them with you.Īnother fun combo for rogues and ninjas is to take the Sap Adept and Sap Master feats. Some of the teamwork feats are good, especially if you're playing a character with a mount. (You get ki points equal to 1/2 ninja level + Cha modifier) The invisibility lasts for one round per level, (unless it gets dispelled somehow) and once you get access to Master Tricks at 10th level you can take Invisible Blade, which upgrades it to Greater Invisibility. They're "rogues-but-better" and they get a trick which lets them turn invisible as a swift action by spending a ki point.

One of our party members poured the drinks, so the thugs wouldn't catch us switching barrels, while the psion hid in the back-filling one barrel with non-alchoholic beer for my character (a halfling cavalier who worshiped Cayden Cailean), and filling the others with a mixture of ale and knock-out poison.įolks still tell the tale of the halfling knight who out-drank an entire gang of grown men.

We once took out an entire street gang by rolling into town with a wagon full of empty barrels and challenging them to a drinking contest. It's particularly handy if you need a large quantity of poison. Since a psion can actually make items based on spells instead of powers just by raising the crafting DC, they can effectively bypass this limit by making a dojore that houses any spell up to 9th level.Īlso, the psion in our party (I believe he's a shaper?) has an ability that lets him conjure ridiculous amounts of any nonliving organic substance, which is incredibly useful in a variety of situations. For instance, in pathfinder magic wands can only be made to cast a spell of 4th level or lower, while Dojores (the psion equivalent of wands) can still go up to level 9. The psion rules are interesting, because they seem to be a little closer to the original 3x rules than the magic rules in pathfinder. That said, there are a few tricks I've noticed. I'm not much of an optimizer, but from what I've seen and heard pathfinder managed to take out most of the muchkiny goodness from 3.5 and earlier versions.
